“The Latino Journal is now publishing and sharing articles and video on its new Blog which can be found at its website, www.latinojournal.net. “In addition to our publication, we are now offering information about government and public policy from a Latino perspective through the internet,” says Publisher Adrian Perez, who Co-founded the Latino Journal publication 12 years ago with his brother Jose L. Perez. “The Latino Journal has been focused primarily on California government and politics, but through the internet, we will be expanding our reach significantly.”

Initially created as a newsletter covering California politics, the Latino Journal expanded into a magazine format in 1996, being the only publication predicting the selection of the first Latino to become Speaker of California’s State Assembly. It has now expanded into the internet through its daily blog found on their website and a 20-minute video on www.calmagazine.com, Channel 1.

“We were told that our prediction was really off base by fellow journalists and numerous lobbyists,” says Perez, “and once Cruz Bustamante became Speaker three months later, we gained statewide and even nationwide respect.”

The two Perez brothers majored in Political Science in college and have been active in California government and politics for almost 30 years. Upon establishing the Latino Journal in Sacramento, California, they also established the “Latino Leaders Annual Reception” which has just enjoyed its 10th year of bringing together Latino leaders, elected officials, and gubernatorial appointees. “We always have a cross-section of Latino leaders from all segments like education, business, and health co-mingling with local, state and national elected officials as well as appointees,” says Perez, “It’s really an even many people look toward every year.”

Although most of the Latino Journal is distributed in California, Texas and Washington D.C., other parts of the country are discovering the publication through its website. “Our distribution is very targeted, allowing our corporate partners to create and include their strategic messages within the Latino Journal,” adds Perez. “The Latino Journal publication reaches elected officials, like state office holders, Congress, and even the White House. It’s a great feeling knowing you can walk into the West Wing and find your publication in the waiting room of the White House.”
