“The arrival of triple-digit temperatures along Arizona’s with usually brings a spike in exposure deaths among migrants trying to enter the country by walking across the desert.

But officials hope this year may be different.

The number of illegal immigrants who have died so far this fiscal year is down, but there’s also been a drop in the number caught entering the country. officials point to a lagging U.S. economy, a tough new state employer sanctions law on hiring illegal immigrants and more guards as major factors in the decline.”*
