“The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced 85 illegal immigrants were sentenced yesterday on federal felony charges after last week’s raid in Postville, Iowa.

“This is the greatest number of defendants ever to plead guilty and be sentenced in one day in the Northern District of Iowa,” said United States Attorney Matt M. Dummermuth.

These people were part of the 389 detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on May 12, 2008, at Agriprocessors, Inc. Criminal proceedings began at 8:00 a.m. yesterday and concluded for the day at about 8:30 p.m.”*
