“Gov. Mike Beebe said Monday he opposes a ballot measure, aimed at illegal immigrants, which would require government agencies to verify that everbody seeking public benefits in the state is a legal U.S. resident.

“While I oppose illegal immigration, I cannot support this initiative,” Beebe said in a statement released by his office Monday.”*
