“After nine years of recording and performing in Southern California, the Latin/R&B band Tierra believed it was ready for the next level. In 1980, the group released a CD entitled “City Nights” and began sending it to major record companies in the hopes of getting signed.

Rudy Salas, co-founder of the group, said although his band was rejected by everyone, he and the other members of Tierra were not deterred. Salas and the group made the decision to independently release the eclectic and energetic CD. “City Nights” quickly landed on the national charts and suddenly the tables took a dramatic turn in Tierra’s favor.”*
