“It’s a humid, sunny Tuesday afternoon, but inside the cool La Gran Plaza de , Maria Muñoz’s 2-month-old daughter is sleeping in her stroller, not at all bothered by the lively Mexican music being piped through the mall’s sound system.

Muñoz, who lives in Burleson, about 10 miles south of the mall in southeast , is taking a few minutes to relax on a bench with her 4-year-old daughter and 16-year-old niece before heading off to the shoe stores. She was at the mall the previous Sunday, but decided to return later in the week to do her shopping.

Around them, shop employees are cleaning display windows, straightening inventory or waiting on customers. Couples are leisurely window-shopping; others are walking briskly.”*
