“Telemundo is expanding its international reach with its programming, providing a much needed upside in its perennially lopsided ratings battle with rival Univisión.

”International is growing revenues dramatically,” said Telemundo President Don Browne. “We’re up 35 percent year-on-year. We’re in 80 countries.”

Telemundo, a unit of NBC Universal, announced Monday a slate of original new telenovelas and shows for the 2008-09 season, varying little from the tried-and-true formula in Spanish-language television of primetime telenovelas, soccer and special events. The presentation was made in New York at the start of what’s known in the television industry as ”upfront” week. During upfronts, networks unveil new programming to advertisers to lock in advance advertising sales.”*
