Hispanics were the largest and fastest-growing minority group in Washington state from 2000 to 2007, according to new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau released Wednesday.
The number of people who claimed Hispanic ethnicity grew by 36.7 percent in that period, from 445,963 to 610,005. That was an increase of 164,042 people from July 1, 2000 to July 1, 2007, the Census Bureau reported.
Hispanics were just under 10 percent of the total population of 6.4 million.”*
