Credited with giving a voice to Hispanic Americans during the 1960s, University of Texas at El Paso alumnus Ruben Salazar was honored today when the U.S. Postal Service unveiled a stamp bearing his name and image as part of the American Journalists Series.
UTEP added to the honor by announcing that Salazar will be recognized posthumously as one of the recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award this coming fall. Presented annually by the UTEP Alumni Association during Homecoming, the Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed upon its graduates. Salazar joins a notable group of past recipients, including NASA astronaut John “Danny” Olivas, retired college basketball coach Nolan Richardson Jr., and famed newsman Sam Donaldson.”*
