Kindred Healthcare, Inc. (the “Company”) (NYSE:KND) today announced that Paul J. Diaz, the Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, has been named one of the 2008 Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine.
In addition, Mr. Diaz was recently cited as one of the Top 25 Best Latinos in Business by Hispanic magazine.
Modern Healthcare is a national trade publication that covers the healthcare industry. The April 7 issue features a list of the Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare. Recipients are selected based on leadership, showing the ability or power to effect change in the healthcare industry, demonstrating a willingness to share expertise with others in the field, serving as a role model or mentor to other minority healthcare executives, and assuming a leadership position in the industry outside of the candidate’s own organization or company.
In addition, Hispanic magazine recently included Mr. Diaz in its list of The 25 Best Latinos in Business. According to the magazine, “Being company powerhouses is just one of their attributes. Many have led their businesses to the top of the corporate ladder, but it’s their ambition, aptitude and sense of duty to their communities, that have made these men and women the utmost business people in the country.”
Mr. Diaz was cited by Hispanic magazine for his work at Kindred and also for being on the board of directors of DaVita Inc. (NYSE:DVA), PharMerica Corporation (NYSE:PMC) and the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, and on the board of visitors of Georgetown University Law Center. In 2006, Mr. Diaz began ensuring that some minority students will be ready for Corporate America. That year, the Georgetown University Law School graduate, who worked while holding a full law school schedule, set up a scholarship fund at Georgetown Law for students with financial needs and to promote ethnic diversity.
Mr. Diaz has served as Kindred’s Chief Executive Officer since January 1, 2004 and as President since January 2002. Mr. Diaz served as the Company’s Chief Operating Officer from January 2002 to December 31, 2003.”*
