Univision 34 Expands Morning News Program, “Primera Edicion”

“ 34, KMEX-TV, the leading station in the country, announced that it is expanding its popular 5 am to 7 am local morning news program an additional hour from 7 am to 8 am broadcasting on its sister station, 46 KFTR-TV starting Monday, April 28.

“The ratings increases we have seen recently have demonstrated that Latinos in the Southland are hungry for more news and information. The expansion of our morning newscast is our continued commitment to inform, empower and motivate the Latino community,” said Maelia Macin, 34 vice president and general manager. “Furthermore, this decision is a response to the overwhelming popularity of ‘Primera Edicion’s’ community focused and unique approach to news as well as ’s growth and maturity as the #2 station in our community.”

The expansion of the morning newscast reflects its continued ratings success. During the most recent February sweeps, in NSI total market, the 5 am news grew +20% while the 6 am news increased +11% versus a year ago. In addition, “Primera Edición” ranked second to KTTV morning news for 6am and tied for #1 at 5 am. Since its launch, “Primera Edicion” has been the number #1 6 am news choice for Hispanics

Expanded Format

Airing Monday through Friday and hosted by award-winning anchors/reporters Rolando Nichols, Gabriela Teissier, Francisco Pinto and Claudia Botero, this expansion of “Noticias 34: Primera Edición” will feature local news, weather and traffic, as well as viewer generated stories, interactive audience segments and guest performances. There also will be weekly entertainment, cooking, health and legal issue segments.

is also expanding its local morning news to the 7 am hour on its local stations in Miami, New York and Sacramento.

Despierta América (Wake Up America) — Network’s top rated morning talk and entertainment show which is celebrating 11 years on the air — will continue to be broadcast nationally Monday to Friday from 7 am to 10 am.
