Latino population at near majority, but lacks at the polls - Coachella Valley, California

Latinos soon will be the majority in the Coachella Valley, but some say that does not necessarily translate into political power.

“To the extent that people’s voices are not part of the process, the decisions that are made may not reflect the majority,” said Hans Johnson, California Public Policy Institute demographer and co-author of a population study released last week.

The study predicts Latinos will become the majority in the Inland Empire by 2015.”*
