Shipments of personal computers in Latin America reached 6.3 million units in the first quarter, market researcher Gartner announced last week. That represents a 19.1 percent increase from the same period last year and confirms Latin America as the fastest-growing PC market worldwide. By comparison, Asia grew 19 percent, Europe/Middle East/Africa by 14.9 percent, the United States by 3.0 percent and Japan by a mere 0.6 percent.
“The first quarter started better than expected,” says Luis Anavitarte, vice president of research at Gartner.”*
