Tumbao records recently released a deluxe six-CD collection of Arsenio Rodríguez, one of Cuba’s true revolutionaries.
As a composer, bandleader and arranger, Rodríguez (1911-1970) changed Cuban music forever by reconnecting it to its African roots and paving the road that led to mambo and salsa.
The box set “El Alma de Cuba” covers El Ciego Maravilloso’s most brilliant musical period, the groundbreaking recordings he made for RCA Victor between 1940 and 1956 in Cuba and New York.”*
