Growing up we learn lessons along the way from our mothers — some heartfelt, some funny and sometimes we don’t even know what we learned until many years later. CasaQ invites the public to enter the “Sing Your Mama’s Praises” Mother’s Day contest to share stories of love and laughter, pieces of wisdom and lessons that were taught to them from their mother while growing up.
The public can enter the contest at www.casaq.com. Each entrant will be required to submit an essay of 300 words or less describing what they, or someone they know, learned from their mother while growing up. Entries must be received by April 27, 2008. Six finalists will be chosen and posted on CasaQ.com with one grand prize winner being chosen on May 5, 2008 by the public. The winning entry’s mother will receive a prize package, which includes a surprise serenade from a live Mexican Trio, Mamacita Vermont Teddy Bear and a 1-800-Flowers Margarita Bouquet. Serenade may not be available in some areas.
Excerpts from entries include:
“She showed me how a woman could have a successful career, and a sparkling clean house all while juggling 5 needy children and a husband. Thank you Mom for showing me how to get 20 things done in one day while still looking perfectly coordinated!”“My abuelita (grandmother) taught me about the power of prayer, forgiveness and how to love unconditionally and to help others in need. She taught me that even a few people can make a difference if they make an effort together and rally support for their cause.”
“In the fifth grade, I was an excellent reader who thought I already knew everything I needed to know and didn’t want to go to school anymore. My mother said ‘That’s fine you don’t have to go to school anymore, just read the encyclopedia from A - Z.’ Happily I dove in and realized very quickly that I knew nothing. Needless to say I went back to school!”
