“Motorola, Inc (NYSE: MOT) today announced that the cities of Veracruz and Boca del Rio have selected MOTOMESH Duo, a two radio meshed WiFi network and their Canopy backhaul solution to provide wireless broadband access to approximately 80% of its residents and tourists. The network will enable free wireless Internet connectivity providing the community with increased access to government and private services supporting further urban development.

The new network will enhance communications in Veracruz, a port city with over 1 million residents and in Boca del Rio, both extending over the Gulf of Mexico, along the country’s coastline. The citywide network will provide wireless broadband access to residential and corporate users, as well as municipal and government agencies.

The MOTOMESH network is expected to be fully deployed by the end of this year, covering large parts of the cities and providing all citizens with free access to the Internet. The initiative was led by the governor of the state of Veracruz, Fidel Herrera Beltrán, who supported the execution of an agreement between Intra Networks, an Internet service provider, the Federal government and the National State.

“We are very proud to be involved in this project, supporting it through the PROSOFT program, which is a huge step forward in the progress of both the cities and Mexico” stated Dr. Carlos García Mendez, Secretary of Economic and Port Development of the Government of the State of Veracruz.

“Motorola’s wireless broadband technology enables us to deploy robust and reliable networks, thus ensuring the project’s success,” stated Valentín Ruíz Anitúa, General Manager of Intra Networks.

The network will be deployed in three stages. Once the network has been fully installed, Intra Network will provide free wireless broadband access as well as video surveillance services for residential users, companies, universities, hospitals and the city hall.

“The MOTOwi4™ portfolio is the most comprehensive wireless broadband suite in the market. Successfully field-proven in a large number of enterprises and governments throughout Latin America, these solutions revolutionize the way people access the Internet in the region”, said Armando Ríos, Motorola’s Distribution Channels Manager.

MOTOMESH Duo and Canopy are part of the MOTOwi4 portfolio of solutions for public and private networks which also includes wi4 Mesh, wi4 Fixed, wi4 Indoor and wi4 WiMAX.

The network deployment will begin on April 3, marking the first milestone in a series of wireless broadband metropolitan solutions to be implemented by Motorola in Mexican cities.”*
