“Retired Navy attorney Luis J. Gonzalez Nieves uses years of mediation experience and his native language to help settle disputes between parents and children, landlords and tenants, consumers and merchants.

Gonzalez works out of a cramped office in the San Ysidro Community Service Center – a busy place where the telephone rings constantly. He is a San Diego Mediation Center community justice coordinator with the nonprofit National Conflict Resolution Center.

Last year, Gonzalez handled 353 cases, with more than 65 percent involving Spanish-speaking clients, and worked to spread the word about mediación, or mediation.”*
