Crown Imports has embarked on the first national TV buy for Modelo Especial beer in hopes of reaching the U.S. Hispanic population with a Spanish-language campaign launched this week.
The effort, called “Calidad Indiscutible” (”Undisputed Quality”), includes spots that play on the conflict between characters that are diametrically opposed but agree on one thing: Modelo Especial’s quality. The commercials, created by Casanova Pendrill, Costa Mesa, Calif., show a die-hard soccer fan arguing with a referee about a call in a game, a wrestler and boxer debating which sport is tougher and two people bickering over music genres—Mexican norteño and Caribbean-Puerto Rican reggaeton. In the end, Modelo Especial brings the opposing parties together as they drink the beer. “*
