Knowledge is Power!
If knowledge is power, then longtime Herndon resident Susan Aguilar is pursuing a dream to empower Herndon’s Hispanic community. Taking the same approach the English-written community papers take, Aguilar has used money from her savings account to start La Luz Al Mundo, a newspaper geared toward the local Hispanic community.
“Our goal is to produce Herndon news,” said Aguilar, the paper’s director. Aguilar, a Herndon resident since her family came to the United State from Venezuela when she was six years old, said much of the Hispanic community is unable to use information about local events and government decisions from local newspapers that report stories in English only. The goal of La Luz Al Mundo is to fill the information gap between Herndon’s English and Spanish speaking populations.”*
