“South Texas businessman Joe A. Diaz is said to have the largest private collection of contemporary art by Southwest artists with Mexican roots, and for nearly three years an exhibition from his holdings has traveled the United States. But “Con Safos: Contemporary Chicano Art From the Joe A. Diaz Collection,” at the National Museum of Mexican Art, offers a different selection of pieces as well as a few different artists.

Unlike the museum’s 2005 exhibition of work owned by actor Cheech Marin, another big collector of Latino art, the present show goes beyond paintings to include drawings and prints plus a few photographs, sculptures and installations.”*
