I have always heard the sayings, “like a kick in the head, a blow to the stomach, a stab in the back.” But had never experienced anything similar.
Well, I felt all the above when Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination last week.
All these feelings came crashing down on me because I had a very high regard for the governor, and had written quite a few articles extolling all his accomplishments and deeds. High among these was his statesmanship, the fact that he refused to endorse any of the Democratic candidates, stating candidly that they all had strengths and weaknesses. I admired him for that because I knew he was under great pressure from every campaign for his endorsement.”*
