“Gathered around a street sign covered with a white sheet, a group of Hispanic community members and supporters looked on as the dedication began Saturday afternoon in North Lubbock.

To the chant of “Si se puedes, it can be done, it will be done,” a rope was pulled - and the sheet should have come off. Three hard tugs later, the sheet remained, though the crowd couldn’t be deterred.

“It’s symbolic of all the struggles we’ve had,” said Christy Martinez-Garcia, who organized the event.”*
