“It’s the noon hour Tuesday and Ruby Chavez and Johanna Rodriguez are famished. It’s been 24 hours since they ate their last meals for most of the week: Chavez chowed down on a Chipotle burrito and Rodriguez feasted on Chinese.

Rodriguez feels a headache coming on. Chavez groans when she hears talk of a milkshake.

“Oh man, I’m starving,” Chavez, a sophomore studying psychology, says. “They’re talking about food in there.”"*
