The District Attorney’s Office is urging San Diego court officials to fix a flaw in how jurors are summoned to the downtown courts that apparently causes fewer Latinos to be called for jury service than there should be.
The request from prosecutors, contained in court documents filed Friday, comes just as a challenge to the jury selection system is scheduled to be heard this week.
Attorneys for a man facing the death penalty have maintained for more than a year that the system is flawed and does not draw in a legally sufficient cross-section of county residents.”*
