U.S. Hispanic network Telemundo is in position to win lucrative rights to broadcast media giant Televisa’s shows in the United States following a deal that gets Telemundo into Mexico.
Televisa’s popular soap operas and comedies are seen as essential for attracting Spanish-language viewers in the United States, experts say.
Under the deal reached this week, Televisa will broadcast more than 1,000 hours per year of Telemundo’s shows on its Channel 9, and carry a pay TV channel for Telemundo on its satellite and cable systems. The initial license spans 10 years and financial terms were not disclosed.”*
