“They just might be the dream cast for Luis Valdez’s “Zoot Suit,” a musical that dramatizes the Los Angeles of the 1940s with its pachuco gangsters, big band jazz, racial tensions and the looming, violent background of World War II.

“Learn to make something out of nothing,” Valdez told an audience of nearly 100 teenagers Saturday at Hartnell College in Salinas. The high school students from across Monterey County have been cast in three productions of his play that will be performed at three county locations in April and May.”*
