“When a dance company presents three world premieres on a one-night-only concert at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance — and manages to pack the house with an audience that is boho chic, and about as diverse as it gets in terms of age and ethnicity — you can draw a couple of conclusions. First, this is a troupe with the confidence to take risks. Second, the company has built an audience hungry for a continually fresh exploration of movement, music and ideas.

Luna Negra Dance Theater, which will mark its 10th anniversary next fall, is now an ensemble of 14 wonderfully expressive dancers with a Latino-infused repertory that runs the gamut from mysterious storytelling to pure, hip-swiveling celebration. The works by four different choreographers that comprised Saturday’s program, “Nuevo Folk,” revealed just how rich and varied that infusion can be.”*
