Knowledge is Power!
CureSearch announces the launch of the Spanish language translation of its award-winning website, through a grant awarded by Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). Specific diagnoses, treatments and side effects through various stages of the childhood cancer journey can now be easily accessed.
CureSearch.org is the premier resource for families of children with cancer, caregivers and clinicians. Initially launched in 2004 as an educational tool for parents, this site provides up-to-date and reliable medical information provided by the Children’s Oncology Group, the world’s largest pediatric cancer research collaborative.
“The real-time availability of essential pediatric cancer information is critical for all of the families we serve,” noted Gregory Reaman, MD, Chair of the Children’s Oncology Group. “This translation bridges the gap of a long-standing language barrier, and empowers these families with information. Now, Spanish-speaking families affected by childhood cancer will have full access to the wealth of clinical knowledge about this disease and its treatments.”
The Children’s Oncology Group (COG) includes more than 5,000 medical experts in childhood cancer and treatment, located at more than 200 leading children’s hospitals, university hospitals and cancer centers in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The COG treats more than 90% of all children diagnosed with cancer in the United States.
“Our grant program allows us to expand our reach and enhance our mission to improve the health and well-being of children,” said Marty Coyne, President and CEO of RMHC. “The RMHC grant funds provided to CureSearch for their Spanish language website will go a long way toward providing invaluable resources for Hispanic children and families who have been touched by cancer.”
“Cancer remains the number one cause of death by disease in children. Every school day, 46 children, or two classrooms of students, are diagnosed with cancer in this country. We welcome Ronald McDonald House Charities as our partner in the launch of this much-needed initiative,” stated Stacy Pagos Haller, Executive Director of CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation. “This support has greatly expanded our ability to reach out and inform Spanish-speaking families in the care of their children. Together, we are working to the reach the day when every child with cancer is guaranteed a cure. ”
