Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS) (NASDAQ: SBSA) announced today that the Monday, March 17 edition of KXOL-Latino 96.3 FM’s “Morning Invasion” will feature Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaragosa and the parents of Jamiel Shaw, Jr., a star African American football player who was shot and killed by two Latino gang members the evening of Sunday, March 2. The special guests will discuss how area communities can work together to prevent gang violence in Los Angeles - especially between African Americans and Latinos. “Morning Invasion” broadcasts every Monday through Friday from 5:00 AM ET to 10:00 AM ET.
Jamiel Shaw Jr. was a star football player at Los Angeles High, who, as a junior, was named the Southern League’s most valuable player last season. Shaw was so talented that Stanford University and Rutgers University were both scouting him as a recruit to eventually offer him a scholarship. Jamiel’s mother, Anita Shaw, is a Sergeant in the United States Army and was serving her second tour in Iraq when she learned about her son’s murder.
This special edition of “Morning Invasion” will attempt to generate awareness about gang violence in Los Angeles, especially between Latino and African American gangs, in order to hopefully bring an end to it all. Gang violence has long been an issue in the community as senseless violence and murders like the case of Jamiel Shaw, Jr. deeply affect the members of the community - “Monday Invasion” hopes to work to bring an end to it all.
Be sure to tune into “Morning Invasion” with Kid Corona, Joey Medina, Alysha and Smoochy on Monday, March 17, from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM, only on KXOL Latino 96.3 FM - your favorite radio station.”*
