“A besotted bus hijacker, a catfight at a wake and septuagenarians in lust create the triptych of stories in the film “Maldeamores,” a funny and poignant take on the pleasure and pain of romantic relationships.

Set in Puerto Rico and directed by the island’s own Carlitos Ruiz — with Benicio del Toro as executive producer — “Maldeamores” tells three tales of love at different phases, from the thrill of a first kiss to the heartache of infidelity and the joys of old age.

“Our film is a reflection of how hysterically we react to love, how we face love in each stage of life,” says Ruiz, 33, of making his big-screen debut.”*
