Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C.H.E.F.®) announced that it has elected Ricardo Garcia to its Board of Directors. Garcia is the General Manager of Radio KDNA-FM in Granger, Washington, which is the only full-time educational Spanish-language public radio station in Washington State. A demonstrated leader with commitment to and passion for eliminating health inequities, Garcia brings significant expertise to the C.H.E.F. Board.

As one of the founders of Radio KDNA, Garcia has helped to shape and direct its development and growth as a minority public radio station that produces quality educational programming for the Spanish speaking population in Washington State. With a focus on reducing and eliminating health disparities, Radio KDNA’s mission is to help communities overcome barriers of literacy, language, discrimination, poverty and illness.

Garcia also serves as Executive Director of Northwest Communities Education Center, which is the licensee for Radio KDNA. Previously, he was Executive Secretary of the Washington State Commission on Mexican-American Affairs, and he was also a past member of the Board of Trustees for the Yakima Valley Community College. Among his other accomplishments, Garcia has been recognized with several awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Latino Radio Summit in 2002, the ACLU William O. Douglas Community Service Award, and La Voz del Campesino, an award from Washington State’s Child Protective Services at its statewide “Diversity Is All of Us” conference.
