Sen. Pedro Rossello, a former governor who led a campaign to make this tropical territory the 51st U.S. state, said Monday he will retire from Puerto Rican politics when his term ends after being trounced in a local primary.
Rossello, 63, who was governor of the U.S. Caribbean commonwealth from 1993 through 2000 and has remained a highly influential figure as opposition chief, said he will quit public life at the close of 2008 when his term as a senator expires.”*
