“The event begins this Wednesday, March the 5th and will finish Saturday, March the 8th and is being held at the Conventions Center. The event contemplates visiting the production centers located in the municipalities of Hueytamalco and Cuetzalan. The governor pointed out that the State Program for Strengthening Bamboos’ Productive Chain was created in 2005 and 8 million pesos have already been invested for planting 570 new stocks. This new stocks are added to the 2 thousand stocks which already exist naturally in 28 municipalities from the Sierra Norte, Nororiental, Negra and Mixteca poblana.

He asserted that, given its characteristics, bamboo offers great advantages for building low cost dwellings. In addition, its resistance is of over 30 years and it provides great safety. At this point, the governor mentioned that bamboo dwellings built in an area which was the epicenter of a 7.6 Richter Scale Earthquake did not suffer any damages. Bamboo is also used for manufacturing paper and as a nourishment.”*
