“To write a book about the quality of life along the border, University of San Diego economist Joan B. Anderson drove “the whole U.S.-Mexican border on the roads that follow the border on the both sides” with a student photographer.

Anderson and San Diego State University economist James Gerber also analyzed a lot of data to produce the book, “Fifty Years of Change on the U.S.-Mexico Border: Growth, Development and Quality of Life.”

In presenting the book Monday at the Trans-Border Institute at USD, Anderson said she and Gerber defined the border region “as every U.S. county and every Mexican municipio that touch the border.””*
