Educate young Latinos on savings options

““Save for the future? I’m just trying to get through the month!”

That was the response of 22-year-old Dallas resident Brandon Garcia to my suggestion that he load up contributions on his 401(k) plan or create an IRA savings plan. As his mentor and as president of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, an organization that provided him an educational grant as he graduated from high school, I was advising him on how to get ahead.

Brandon, who excelled in his course work, is responsible, brimming with creativity and of unquestionable character. Now he faces the complexity and implications of retirement savings options, which can be intimidating and confusing.”*
