Public offers ideas for San Jose’s Mexican Heritage Plaza

“With the future of San Jose’s Mexican Heritage Plaza hanging in the balance, community leaders and city officials Monday gathered once again to brainstorm about the direction the troubled cultural center should take.

At issue is the center’s finances - which have been on a downward spiral ever since it opened in 1999 - and a dispute over whether it should be a premier, regional center or a community-focused venue.

Monday’s session at the center came after a city report Friday recommended three options for the plaza, including having the city take control of the facility from its current operator, the Mexican Heritage Corp.”*
