“The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) will honor the critical role of Latinas at its 2008 Annual Latina Leaders Reception on March 11th during the USHCC Legislative Conference in Washington, DC.

Every year, the USHCC hosts this reception to honor the contributions of Hispanic women in the areas of public service, corporate, political, and entrepreneurship

Confirmed speakers at this year’s reception include:
– United States Treasurer Anna Cabral
– Congresswoman Grace Napolitano
– Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard
– Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez
– OSDBU Associate Director, DOE, Teresa Speake

“All of these outstanding Latinas represent the top of their respective fields—from politics to Corporate America to private industry,” said David C. Lizárraga, USHCC Board Chairman. “They serve as admirable role models for our Hispanic youth, bringing honor not only to themselves, their families and their colleagues, but also to their gender and the entire Hispanic community.”

The reception will take place on March 11th from 6:30 – 8:30 PM in the Altria Corporate Offices and will be sponsored by Altria and Kraft. Sponsor representatives from both Altria and Kraft will offer remarks.

Hispanics Today TV Show Host Erica Ortiz will emcee the event, and will be joined by USHCC Board Chairman David C. Lizárraga, Vice-Chairwoman Elizabeth Gallagher, and USHCC President and CEO Augustine Martinez. On the air since 1999 and a weekly series since 2001, Hispanics Today(R) is broadcast to more than 84 percent of the Hispanic television households in the United States (reaching 26 million viewers in 30 states and the District of Columbia). Hispanics Today is viewed in 24 of the top 25 Hispanic markets in the U.S., including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Tampa, San Francisco and many others.

“Latinas are a critical segment of the overall Hispanic business community, and as a group, they are the fastest growing business segment in the nation,” said Augustine Martinez, USHCC President and CEO. “Even more exciting is the fact that Latinas are excelling across all industries and areas. We are honored to host the Latina Leaders Reception so we may pay tribute to the role of Latinas in our nation’s capitol and corporate board rooms.”

The Legislative Conference brings together the nation’s top business owners, opinion leaders and key governmental and administration officials for a three-day gathering to discuss the most pressing legislative concerns of the nation’s largest and fastest growing business segment, Hispanic entrepreneurs. Expanding hemispheric relations and trade, telecommunications, energy efficiency, and federal procurement opportunities are among the key issues that will receive top billing at this year’s Legislative Conference.
