Legendary Mexican recording artist/motion picture star Vicente Fernández will join the all-star lineup of Latin music superstars who will perform on the gala 20th edition of “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” (Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards) and be honored with the coveted “Premio a la Excelencia” special award for excellence. The longest-running and most popular Latin music awards show on television will be broadcast live from Miami’s American Airlines Arena on Univision, the country’s leading Spanish-language television network, on Thursday, February 21, with Red Carpet coverage beginning at 7pm ET/PT (6pm Central) followed by “Premio Lo Nuestro” at 8pm ET/PT (7pm Central).
Hailed as the “King of the Ranchera,” Fernández is one of the most nominated artists in the 20-year history of “Premio Lo Nuestro” and a previous winner of four awards for best Male Regional Mexican vocalist. As such, Fernández will be honored for his commitment to excellence during a career spanning more than 45 years and resulting in more than 100 albums and 25 motion pictures.

“Premio Lo Nuestro,” the highest-rated special each season among Hispanics in the United States, bestows awards annually to the winners from the five most popular Latin music genres – Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican, Rock and Urban – and Video of the Year. Nominees were selected from charts compiled by the prominent recording industry trade magazine Radio & Records®. The 2007 telecast reached more than 11 million viewers. Year to year, it consistently beats the combined average Hispanic audiences of the Academy Awards, Latin Billboard Music Awards, Emmy Awards, MTV’s Video Music Awards and the Golden Globes, among all major demographics.
