They are high school students with one foot in the college door. They’re also illegal immigrants who fear they will be deported but still manage to study and prepare for their futures.
The kids attend the Gateway Early College High School and when donors contributed money to their education they decided to write them thank you notes. State funding does not cover college high school education. But the thank you notes soon turned into something else, a book.
“Documented Dreams” is the brain child of their principal Yvonne Watterson, an Irish immigrant herself. Watterson managed to get Hispanic publishers interested in the kid’s stories and now they’re a work of literature. “*
