“Castillo was among about 2,800 Latino students from across Santa Clara County who took part in the first Advancing Latina/o Achievement & Success conference at San Jose State University.

“We’re not going to let anything stop us from reaching our dreams or get us off track,” said Castillo, surrounded by a group of school friends who also attended the event. “That’s why we’re here.”

The conference was organized by San Jose State, National Hispanic University and superintendents across the county to teach students what they need to do to get into college.”*
