Gov. Jim Doyle has appointed Dane County’s first Hispanic judge.
Doyle announced late this afternoon that Juan B. Colas will fill the Dane County Circuit Court vacancy created by retiring Judge Angela Bartell. Colas will likely begin serving in late February. His term ends July 31, 2009, at which point he would have to run for election to retain the seat.
“Juan Colas possesses the legal knowledge, integrity, and temperament that is required of Circuit Court judges,” Doyle said. “He is a well-respected member of his community and will make an excellent addition to the court.”"*
