“The Mexican government is sponsoring a worldwide writing contest, asking Mexican nationals and descendants living around the globe to document their immigrant experience.

Mexican officials hope to get a better sense of how their former citizens live abroad, what drove them to leave Mexico, what challenges they face, and what they need to integrate and succeed, particularly in the United States.

“We want to show the migratory process is a human one,” said Ursula Rojas Weiser, coordinator of the Institute of Mexicans Living Abroad for the Mexican Consulate in Portland.”*
