“Career prosecutor Anita Alvarez declared victory Tuesday in a tight six-way Democratic primary for Cook County state’s attorney, edging out veteran politicians who derided her for not doing more to clean up an office plagued by misconduct allegations.

Alvarez, currently the No. 3 prosecutor in the office, would become the first woman and first Hispanic to be the county’s top prosecutor if she wins the November general election against Tony Peraica, a Cook County commissioner from Riverside who was unopposed in the Republican primary.”*
