The Univision Television Network announced a star-studded lineup of some of Latin music’s biggest recording artists scheduled to appear on the gala 20th edition of “Premio Lo Nuestro a la Música Latina” (Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards), television’s longest-running music awards show. Celebrating 20 years of honoring the very best in Latin music, the ever-popular awards show will be broadcast live from Miami’s American Airlines Arena on this country’s leading Spanish-language television network on Thursday, February 21, beginning at 8pm ET/PT (7pm Central).
In honor of this historic broadcast, “Premio Lo Nuestro 2008” will feature a variety of surprise guests and special presentations that will pay tribute to the 20 years and hundreds of artists who have appeared. Always noted for its lavish production numbers, this year’s show will include performances by three time regional Mexican Premio winner Pepe Aguilar, legendary musical impresario AB Quintanilla III Presenta Kumbia Allstarz, an exclusive reunion performance by eleven-time Premio winner Elvis Crespo and the most Premio-nominated group ever in the Tropical Group category, Grupo Manía, pop superstar and eight-time Premio winner Enrique Iglesias, popular cumbia recording artists Cruz Martínez Presenta: Los Super Reyes, regional Mexican Premio-winning singer/songwriter Jenni Rivera, Puerto Rican merengue and pop legend, and the winner of the most Premio awards ever for a female artist, Olga Tañón who will also receive the “Trayectoria” career award, and the winners of two Premio awards in the Urban category, reggaaeton recording artists Wisin y Yandel.
Also scheduled to appear as presenters are Premio-nominated Mexican teen pop star Belinda, multiple Premio-winners, including the prestigious Excelencia Award, regional Mexican group Los Tigres del Norte, the Premio-nominated duranguense group Horóscopos de Durango, as well as Premio-nominated reggaetonera Ivy Queen.
“Premio Lo Nuestro,” the highest-rated special each season among Hispanics in the United States, bestows awards annually to the winners from the five most popular Latin music genres - Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican, Rock and Urban - and Video of the Year. Nominees were selected from charts compiled by the prominent recording industry trade magazine Radio & Records®. The 2007 telecast reached over 11 million viewers. Year to year, it consistently beats the combined average Hispanic audiences of the Academy Awards, Latin Billboard Music Awards, Emmy Awards, MTV’s Video Music Awards and the Golden Globes, among all major demographics.
Since last December, Hispanic music fans have logged onto Univision.com (keyword: Premio) and determined this year’s Premio lo Nuestro winners. Univision.com’s dedicated mini-site will offer exclusive content before, during and after the Awards Show, including the latest news and photos, a video epicenter, as well as fully-loaded bios and music clips from featured artists.”*
