The flames of suspicion, frustration, antagonism, anger and fear have leaped higher and higher as a bill to punish businesses for hiring undocumented workers moves through the Indiana General Assembly. The resulting atmosphere is all wrong for passing far-reaching legislation.
Sen. Mike Delph’s bill proposes to serve the best of ends — to protect taxpayers and legitimate commerce; to curb the exploitation of a vulnerable underground labor force; and to take up the federal government’s shirked duty of honoring the law.”*
