The women came together on a wintry January night, braving the snow to hear a talk presented by Rush-Copley Medical Center. Many dropped their kids off in a neighboring room to be babysat by Rush-Copley’s nursing team. Munching on veggies and cheese cubes, the women chatted about jobs and families until the evening’s speaker, Dr. Laura Avila, took the stage.
The night’s topic? “La Menopausia.”
Latina Talks, Rush-Copley’s new discussion program for Hispanic women, began in October as a way for the hospital to reach more Spanish-speaking women in the area. As Fox Valley’s Hispanic population continues to grow, local hospitals are realizing that services traditionally offered only in English are no longer enough.”*
