“Some say the violence we’re seeing is just the beginning of a serious crackdown on the Mexican drug trade. Only this war on drugs isn’t coming from Washington, its an internal cleansing that started after the recent Mexican election. “One of the things that Mr. Calderon has done since he took office in December of ‘06, is he is determined to clean the country” said Dr. Tony Payan, UTEP professor. He says that includes going after every known drug cartel in Mexico. “The Pacific cartel , the Gulf cartel, the Tijuana cartel, and I think they’re coming to Juarez” Payan said. A testament to that theory is Mexican soldiers patrolling the streets of Juarez, and assisting local police.”*
