Cultiva Entertainment announced today that its English language production of the Serie del Caribe 2008 will be transmitted to over 46 million households in the U.S. and Europe. The 12-game championship tournament will celebrate its 50th edition in Santiago, Dominican Republic, the host country. The tournament will run from Saturday, February 2nd through Thursday, February 7th.
Victor Rojas and Octavio “Cookie” Rojas will be the lead broadcast team of the English language production for the 2008 Serie del Caribe. For the 3rd year in a row, this father-son team will participate in the Serie del Caribe production. Victor, who is entering his 4th year as a member of the Texas Rangers broadcast team, provides play-by-play commentary on the team’s radio broadcasts and fills in on the television broadcasts. Cookie Rojas, a former Major League Baseball player, coach and manager is currently a Spanish language announcer for the Florida Marlins, will provide color commentary for the Series. During Cookie’s Major League career he played Winter League Baseball in the Caribbean.
The second team of announcers will feature Felix DeJesus and Uri Berenguer. Felix DeJesus will provide play-by-play analysis and Uri Berenguer will provide color commentary for the Series. A native New Yorker, but with roots in the Dominican Republic, Felix is part of the Spanish language radio broadcast team for the New York Yankees and currently co-hosts the internet show “El Mundo de Las Grandes Ligas.” Uri currently hosts a Spanish language program entitled “Hablando Pelota” (Talking Baseball) on XM Radio and is entering his sixth season as the Spanish Language radio broadcaster for the Boston Red Sox.
“We are pleased to feature these two talented announce teams who have extensive experience in Baseball and will provide fans with the insights of Caribbean Baseball and the Latin players’ perspective,” said Sara Loarte, Cultiva Entertainment. “This broadcast will offer bi-cultural Latinos as well as general market baseball fans the opportunity to experience the excitement and color of Caribbean Baseball.”
