“A UNC program that helps Latino high school students advance to college is trying to win a contest that will give it essential funds it needs to keep growing.

The Scholars’ Latino Initiative is a program in which UNC students work to mentor students from Jordan-Matthews High School in Siler City for three years.

SLI is trying to win a contest called America’s Giving Challenge, in which the top four charities with the most donations win $50,000.
