“The Florida belt between Tampa and Orlando, known as the I-4 corridor for the interstate that links the cities, is Republican territory, heavily traveled by the four GOP candidates competing in Tuesday’s primary. Although Miami’s Little Havana is a bastion of Cuban-American Republicans, Hispanics in Central Florida are more diverse, geographically and politically. Among the Hispanics living in the Tampa-Orlando area, about 40% are Puerto Rican, and 21% are Mexican-American. The voting trend here is toward Democrats.

Nancy Gonzalez, a waitress at Danny’s, likes Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. “She’s a woman and defends families,” she says.

Josef Milian, who arrived from Cuba two years ago and moved in with his cousin Roland Hernandez, can’t vote, but he has a 6-year-old son in Cuba and can visit his son once every three years under U.S. policy. “Isolationism isn’t helping Cuba toward democracy,” he says.”*
